Booster Gold 44 I’m reliably informed is where you should start reading Flashpoint. I didn’t read Flashpoint but with all these new DCnU titles I felt I should read this then read the new titles to see what’s going on.
I’m a big fan of Booster Gold. It’s a DC series I do buy the trades for along with JSA and Green Lantern and although my trades aren’t quite up to this point in the series I hoped that there would be no spoilers and dived in.
The comic starts off straight away with Booster being attacked after the US military suspect he is an Atlantean, no messing around here straight in top the world of Flashpoint. The reader if like me know nothing of what has happened before or read any other issues is just as clueless as poor Booster as he re-caps that in a flash of light (Seriously and totally channelling the spirit of the Age of Apocalypse) the world changed around him and ever the clueless detective he stumbles out to find out what changed. Unfortunately we get a recap on who Booster is in the middle of the story. And I suppose this being a Flashpoint title a lot of people will have bought this having not read any previous Booster G or know much about who he is so I’ll forgive Dan Jurgens.
Talking of which Dan Jurgens writes a very good, entertaining comic (if you forgive the recap) and as always Booster is the accidental hero type blithering idiot who when the world changes asks if it a joke. Jurgens also pencils on this issue and the art is wholesome and detailed. It’s a very polished comic as it has been throughout the series and I hope many people reading this would have checked out his earlier trades and even the DC masterpiece 52. So although a tie-in the comic sets up the world of Flashpoint. We know the US hates Atlanteans and we know that the world has changed and I am hungry to find out why.
So my first Flashpoint issue is not a disappointment. Next issue Flashpoint 1.
